All About Paulo

PAULO is a popular songwriter, satirist, and humorous entertainer from Calgary. As Paul Finkleman and using the stage name ‘PAULO’, he’s been an active member of the Alberta Culture Touring Program for many years, and has earned the reputation of being an accomplished writer and performer, with a special talent for relating to children of all ages. He has performed several thousand concerts and workshops in schools and at festivals throughout Western Canada over the past 25 years.

PAULO has written over 2,000 songs, six musicals, three books and recorded 11 song albums on CD! In addition to starring in his own award-winning Cable Children’s Television Series, “The Wizard of Od!” he has performed hundreds of concerts, at venues ranging from the Monterey and Edmonton Folk Festivals to the Athletes Village at the Winter Olympics.

PAULO resides in Calgary with his wife Deb, and they have two wonderful daughters.

2011  Launches his second CD of original songs about Alberta history “ALBERTASONGS II”

2011  Presents the Workshop “AlbertaSongs” at Calgary Teachers’ Convention

2011  Records the album “WE LEARN TO SHARE”, 16 original songs geared for Early                          Elementary and Kindergarten Teachers, children and parents.

2010  Composes and records the CD “BORN TO LEAD”, a musical about the life and times of               Louis Riel, staged and written with the students at Louis Riel School in Calgary  (See                          edu-tainment blog for all the lyrics to this musical and more)

2009  Composes and records the CD “KEEPERS OF A TREASURE”, 16 original songs about               growing up Jewish in Canada

2007  Completes recording the environmental CD “GUARDIANS OF THE PLANET”

2006 – 2009  Full -time Music Teacher and Artist-in Residence at The Third Academy, for                         children with special learning needs.

2004  Completes recording the original folk CD album “FILL ME GLASS HIGHER”

2003-10  As an Artist-in Residence, performed concerts and wrote and directed numerous                         original elementary school musicals throughout Alberta

2002  Records and releases fifth album of songs, “THE MUFFALOOSE!”

1996  Completed “WORDS OF KIDSDOM” a hilarious book celebrating the innocence of                     children, and the language kids use to communicate (illustrated by Larry Miller)

1996  Music Workshopper at the Canadian Association for Music Therapy Conference

1995-96  Toured to promote his CD ”WAY OUT IN RIGHT FIELD”, which has been re-released              under its featured song “FUNKYDISCOMBOOBLEGUM”

1995  Headline Entertainer at The Calgary Winter Festival

1994  Completed the book, ‘VERY FUNNY STUFF’, using the pen name, Ballpoint Finkleman

1993-94  Worked with recording engineer and producer, Peter D’Amico at Boxer Productions                     Studio in Calgary, creating the CD album, ‘Way Out in Right Field’

1991  Won the Calgary and Southern Alberta Scrabble Championship

1990  Co-Organizer of ‘Earth Day, 1990 Festival’ in Calgary

1990-94  Wrote, starred and toured in ‘Roger Recycle’, an environmental musical for schools

1989-92  Wrote and starred in the pioneer musical, “ONE ROOM SCHOOHOUSE”, written               with seniors, which toured Alberta schools for four years

1989  Wrote ‘The Green Christmas Carol Songbook’

1988  Wrote and recorded the record ‘Pandamagic’ for the Calgary Zoo and Prehistoric Park

1988  Performed satirical songs for the Calgary CBC morning radio program, The Eye-Opener

1987-90 Guest Performing Artist and ‘Writing Workshop’ Instructor at ‘Young Author’s                            Conference’ for Calgary and Edmonton School Boards. Title: ‘EDU-TAINMENT!

1987  Released third album, “ALBERTASONGS”, with an accompanying songbook                                 made possible in part by a grant from the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation

1987  Wrote and directed the elementary school musical ‘Shulamov General Store’

1984-98 Conducted ‘Learning Through Music’ workshops at Teacher’s Conventions and                             Seminars throughout Alberta

1983-95  Under the management of Rhoda Taylor, Boxer Productions Arts Management,                           working as a full-time performing artist

1983-95  Assumed the musical stage name of PAULO, and began touring hundreds of schools                under the Alberta Culture Touring Program
